Dr John Nicholls is a Consultant Respiratory Physician who completed his undergraduate training at the University of NSW in 1980.

He then did his postgraduate training in internal medicine specialising in Respiratory Medicine at both Concord and St George Hospitals in Sydney. He was awarded his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1988.

He has extensive experience in both Respiratory and General Medicine having worked in Canberra since 2006 and before that in Port Macquarie. In Canberra, he has worked in both the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and the General Medicine Unit at The Canberra Hospital. He was the Director of the Respiratory Unit at The Canberra Hospital in 2021. He has also attended both National Capital Private Hospital and Calvary John James Private Hospital. He continues to work in private practice.

Dr Nicholls has wide experience in Respiratory Medicine with particular interests in airways disease (severe asthma, COPD), interstitial lung disease, lung cancer/nodules and advanced bronchoscopy (introduced EBUS at The Canberra Hospital). He does not do Sleep Medicine.

He has been very involved in Medical training and was a Senior Lecturer at the ANU. He has also been a Supervisor of both Basic and Advanced physician trainees and was a local examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
